Yes My Retarded Arse Signed Up
So I’m not sure if I mentioned this little tidbit of info but I am back in the Army now. Well technically I’m in the Army Reserves but it was a challenge to put on the Green Suit again. I’ve been out of the military for exactly four years now and something compelled me to go back in this time. USARMY spelled backward is the title of this post.
Everyone asks, why now? Easy answer, I AM BROKE! And I don’t mean broke as in I can’t take a vacation, I mean broke like gas is becoming a struggle (and I drive a small car!). Being in the military was an easy job for me, just do what you’re told.
Now this was the first drill weekend for me (although I signed up in Sept). I’m in a training support unit which lessens my chances of going out to the sandbox but anything is possible. I can’t even begin to describe the trouble I have had getting ready for drill. You all know the saying, “God looks out for babies and fools”. Well, lets just say, I’m no baby.
I waited until the last possible minute to get my uniforms ready for drill. Four years and sitting down studying alot has left a little extra soldier to fit into the uniform. Did I get my uniforms ready 2 wks ahead of time? Of course not! I waited until the week of drill to call my girl who is on Active Duty to ask her to pick up the things I needed. She rushed them to me overnight (luv ya girl!) but of course I wasn’t home to get the package. The post office was still open but of course they don’t actually keep the package at the actual post office. The lady tells me that the package is at the other facility across the street (which you know was closed) but tells me that maybe if I go over there someone will give me the package through the back door. I see a mail carrier taking mail from the box in front of the facility and something tells me to ask him. He tells me that HE is the mail carrier who tried to deliver my package and that he’ll go in and get it for me. Lord knows I needed the package since it contained my blouse for drill in the morning! That was nothing but God.
Funny how when something good happens we are quick to say “that’s nothing but God”. But this time, his presence was so strong I could feel it. That’s a whole other post
This story doesn’t have a perfect ending though. My uniform was tight as all get out! Jacket so tight you would think I was trying to take my blood pressure! Blouse had me looking like I was trying to shrink wrap myself. But the pants fit at least
I refuse to pay for a new uniform so I have to get back on track with my eating habits (free morning pastries at the hospital have been too much for me). Part of the reason I went back into the Reserves was that it would force me to get control of my weight before it gets too further out of control.
I survived my first drill weekend. The people are really nice for the most part and all we did this weekend was sit in classes. Not bad for the money I make (I’m a Captain so the pay is well worth it). I found out this weekend that I’m being moved to a different unit effective next month, but I’m going with most of the people I met that I like. Flexibility, discipline and focus. All the things I hope to gain from the military time.
Wow, this was long. Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. I have a million stories for you, some good.. some not quite so good but I’ll catch up this week!

Wow, you keep it moving!! I have never really thought about the ARMY as a job, but that is what it is, huh?
Glad to see you are doing okay.

Howdy…glad you are doing ok. I am praying for you and those reserves…I would hate to know that you are going to the sandbox.
P.S. Did I send you my new link?
